lost and found photos of trip to oban

My Friend Haydee had booked a weeks holiday in Oban so i thought I would gatecrash and spend a couple of days with her -I have family in Oban and on Seal and thought I could kill two birds with one stone ;0)

Haydee came into the shop today and I asked her why I didn't have any photos of Oban and she said I was too busy laying on pavement ....( my parking ticket blew out of my hand and went right under the car .... well you can imagine the rest, Haydee wanted to get another ticket BUT i was determined... I did get it in the end) .....spending time chatting to my family (we had to do this in the chocolate shop... I recommend their chocolate fondue..mmm.....we also had to go to my cousin,s restaurant The Seafood Temple ....ranked no 1 out of 46 restaurants in Oban on Trip advisor-- well done cuz)

Anyway we noticed info about the Seafari, so we went on the wild life trip and then went on another trip to the Corryvrecken. Fabuuuulous

I have been going through photos on my phone and found these two pictures of my niece modelling a couple of jumpers we have in the shop. I think she is wasted working in one of Londons' top law firms. She could be earning peanuts as a model.

these photos I took today, it has been a lovely day after the very stormy weather yesterday and through the night

fingerless mitts knitted out of the glorious Mirasols Akapana which is extremely soft made up of 65% baby Llama, 25% meino wool & 10% Donegal. In between other knitting I am knitting a headband/ear warmers to match

Totally spoilt..... do you know the rug that is in her basket.. 100% cashmere from Woolfish!!!!! They tell me that is is only being used until a replacement rug can be found. we will see !!!!

Again another quiet day in the shop as we got another few inches of snow,

Snow makes everything sparkle, i just love what the snow does to what is already lovely.

I have a new camera(another one as my last new camera was drenched while taking photos of a rough sea and waves coming over the wall)

Well, after a few months of trying to get my life on track, I thought I had better let you know that I am still here.
Woolfish is still here after long deliberations - shall we keep going? yes? No?
For the moment it is a yes.!!!!!!
I was in a quandry about where to live - should I stay in the house I am in? Yes? No?
For the moment yes!!!!
It is soooo handy as a venue for knitting retreats and the knitting group.
At the end of the day nothing has changed, except both Trudi and I have renewed zeal for the shop and all things woolly.
The retreats are still going ahead in September and November.
The St Abbs Woolfestivals are still going ahead at the end of August and in November.

Our New Lanark Cones are proving a big hit especially with this free patern.

We had an amazing time at Wonderwool and at Woolfest.

Thankyou to all those who came up and said Hi.

And the constant supply of ice-cream (for my sore throat)

My sisters and I went over to see my parents for a surprise visit and we had a wonderful time

Sat morning-- start of weekend away.

The trees were just wonderful

I left my car in Cove and had to take a couple of photos

the three of us plus wee coz Jeanette

On Sunday we got the train - with bikes , to Lindau and then cycled back to my parents--about 8 - 10 km I'll have you know

Lindau is an island on Lake Constance and is just wonderful

I just loved these trees, Alison did tell me what they were called but I have forgotten

I just love a rough sea

This is a beach that I (and my family) call cowrie bay, I walked here just over a week ago and managed to find 37cowries, a friend managed to get 74 just a couple of days before, she did gloat a little!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

these two beaches are directly next to each other. one is stoney and one is sandy. Why/how does that happen?????

Grace came up with this idea a couple of weeks ago.

we all drew a name out of a hat and had to knit something ( or sew) from a ball of wool - or equivalent of. Here are some of the results.

I think every one was pleased with their prezzies, I think everyone was very creative.

Already we are talking about doing another one.

We also had a lovely lunch - with bubbly of course, everyone brought something.

What about opening it up to lots of others and having a knit/swap/ buy... day

More Wonderful Models

This young lady came into the shop with her family, they are on holiday, and her younger brother is called Tim.
Well I asked her if she would like to model this dress which was a work in progress.
As you can see she said yes.

I had promised people that the dress pattern would be on my web site by the end of today, so needed to work on one,
I pulled most of the above out and came up with the one here below, the pattern will ( the will is more for my benefit)be on before 12 midnight!!!!

Selkirk Throws and the Sea

I just nipped down to the Harbour at St Abbs to see this. I just mentioned to someone there that I find it hypnotic, soothing, frightening.... all at once. I was supposed to take photos of Throws so I got one or two

Isn't this Cardi Lovely, It was knitted by Mrs Jean Weatherhead.

It is an Artesano Pattern and knitted is Artesano Inca Mist which Jean mentioned was so beautiful to knit with. Others have said the same.

The finished article is just soooo luxuriously soft.

Well we had a great time at the knitting and stitching show,
all these 1kg balls went down v well, they were soooo colourful and such great fun to knit.
We knitted on our hands and arms - no needles hence 'Knaked Knitting'.
One ball could knit a dress or or ....

The big knitted hats and scarves were also a 'big' hit

The Aran cones were a good replacement for more expensive Aran wool

This Jacket is an adaptation of a Debbie Bliss pattern with a few changes but the yarn is New Lanark Aran which worked very well. The Book is 'Design it Knit it' and is a wonderful tool to help you adapt and design things to suit you and your body shape.

This Jacket was very kindly knitted by Linda who is one of the fastest knitters I have seen, it was very much admired.

Just a few photos to give an idea what was at Wonderwool, These photos doesn't do it justice, we had a ball, The orgasnizers were great, we had such a laugh, we even strutted our stuff showing Woolfish products on the sheepwalk (wools answer to catwalk).

All knitted up, two young ladies came to the shop on Sunday, they looked so cozy as well as stylish, their Granny is the knitter who I might add was wearing a wonderful coat also knitted by herself.

St Abbs WoolFestival

The Whole day was a great success, thanks to everyone who had a stand and to all the wonderful customers.

The proceeds from the teas and coffees came to over £120--price to be confirmed when the money in the boat is counted, this is going to the St Abbs Lifeboat.

I managed to take a few pics of the day

My wonderful daughter designed and knitted the big knitting,including the giant knitting needles and Max helped to put it up

Janice was selling her stash- and yet did she buy more yarn I wonder??

Janic from Flight Weavers had the most amazing scarves and was able to show us how it was done

You could buy the fleece and/or yarn of the individual AlpacasA lovely little model whose Granny knitted this wonderful dress in Noro Blossom-- she did very well to pose on a very cold day

And last but not least the Angora goats-you could just about knit from their coats there and then.

I thought I had taken lots more photos, but now remember that I meant to go back to stand when nobody was at them, sorry that you couldn't see all the stands.

Things are hotting up for the St Abbs Wool Festival on the 7th March
the times are 10.30am to 5pm
we will be having the Alpacas Back along with Angora Goats, Hopefully the Llamas will be keeping them company,
We will be having lots of hand dyed yarn, Buttons, Jumpers, £1 ball stand, Throws
Live music.

Many have asked about the baby cardi's
Here are one or two....or three

they have all been knitted by Marga, they are lovely arn't they?

You can knit them too,

We have the yarn and the patterns or you can use a pattern of your own- I suggest the most simple plain pattern you can find.

As for the yarn, it is a 4ply self patterning sock yarn and all you need for baby up to about 6month old is 100g ball

So if you want 1 ball plus pattern sent out to you it would cost £9.00 inc P&P

Felting on the 20th Feb

Just a note about the felting course on the 20thFeb.
This will start at 10am till 4-4.30ish with tea,coffee and a light lunch.
Laura has asked those who are coming to bring a towel, she will get back to me if we need to bring anything else.
First of all we will be flat felting, just to get to know our fibres and how they work. She mentioned that this is important as sometimes we go on an hour long course and make something but when we get home it never seems to work out the same.
We will then work with 'resist' and take home a finished project.

I for one am really looking forward to the course. See you then if not before ;0)

Look at these amazing socks - sorry I meant to say this sock as number 2 is being put on the back burner, - knitted by someone who has never knitted a pair of sock in her whole life.
She was advised by a lady to knit a 2 needly sock and this is IT.
I personaly prefer to knit on the round, I think it is easier in the longrun.

This lovely Baby Jacket was knitted by Linda in Rialto Aran its lovely isn't it.

Another knit (by mwa this time) also in the Debbie Bliss Rialto Aran, this was just one of the easiest patterns.

Last but by no means least this Jacket Designed, knitted and modeled by June,

June amazed us all when she produced this finished Jacket that she had d, the yarn she used is an amazing Alpaca yarn that is a felted yarn as apposed to a spun yarn

this was everyone setting up, later on it was sooo busy , it would have been so hard to take a photo.

it was nice to see young ones taking an interest in knitting--By the comment young- now that i have turned 50 ---(50 - only old people are 50) I still feel a young one.

Ravelry - HELP

Well I have been spending time while in the shop looking at Ravelry I am learning very slowly, I might add, I think I need Lucy to help me, or anyone who knows, eg what does blog posts from member projects mean and how do I get my blog posts on there.
When it say projects queued, stashed, fav,.....when I see a pattern that I like how do I get that up on my projects...or whatever,

Does anybody understand what I mean,
I think I am a lost cause.

Feather and Fan Pattern

Well at last, I have got round to putting the Feather and Fan on the blog for all you Woolfish knitters.(This sample of the cashmere knitted in the feather and fan pattern was knitted by Margaret, who I might add knits the most amazing things and spins her own wool too!!!!)

Here goes: if you want just one lace pattern (in the sample above there are 5repeats)

Felting workshop

It will be held in the Old Smiddy Caffee, St Abbs

Well, we had a great time in Dublin 2 weeks ago and met some more lovely knitters.

I mislaid my card from my camera so wasn't able to take any photos.

Then last Saturday we had the Wool Festival in St Abbs, which was a great success, We are planning a Wool Festival for next year, also by popular demand some knitting weekends and knitting days.
The Wool Festival would not have worked without the Woolfish Knitters and Stitches namely Dianne-who was working on her Proggy Rug and was helping out wherever she was needed, Linda - who had her own table filled with amazing things that I wanted to buy, Grace - who was serving coffee and scones in aid of the Vine Trust and knitting every spare minute she could, Romana - who has just moved house and just to get to St Abbs was great but did that stop her knitting -no- it was great to see her, Lucy - well, she had a table full of stash wool which apparently was just the tip of the iceberg, she did very well, will she set up in competition with me? we will have to wait and see, Irene- who was able to come even though she had visitors, and Maria who sat at the door and made everyone welcome, I tried to take her place but didn't do nearly as well, she is trying to get out of it next year but to replace her will be impossible.

Just before the Wool Festival we started renting the Old Smiddy for the winter and opened it that weekend with lots of help from Helen, Ryan my sister Alison who helped out at the last minute, and last but not least my right hand girl, my lovely daughter Trudi who was running about like a headless chicken during the time of the Wool Festival, how would I manage without her.

Now we/ Trudi are trying to get things together for the Knitting and Stitching Show in Harrogate, we have got wonderful cashmere and other wonderful wool.

I will try and get my camera put right and then I can take lots of photos of not only the show but also all the wonderful yarn.

We have had some of this felted yarn in before but these colours are just amazing, This yarn is Pure Merino Wool and is NOT spun, it is felted and is an amazing texture.

This yarn is made up of 90% Wool 10% Acrylic and is such fun to knit with and can also be felted after you have knitted it,

Wool free yarn

For those of you looking for a yarn without wool I have picked out these following 3 pictures

The above is Debbie Bliss Stella and is 60%silk 20%rayon 20%cotton and I think the colours are just lovely.The suggested needle size for this yarn is 5mm so to be treated as Aran, we do have pattern books for this yarn and the Araucania but why splash out on more books when you might have the perfect one in your own pattern collection.

If you would like to see one or two pictures of things knitted up in these lovely yarns i could post them here.

These 2 pictures show the hand dyed Araucania, it is 100%pima cotton and calls for 6mm needles so look out patterns that are a good Aran weight or slightly chunky.

Now this Da Masi does have wool in it, it is great for knitting scarves but you do need two or three balls. I have used it for knitting my dropped stitch scarf pattern, If anyone would like the pattern, please just ask.

It is just the best yarn to use though with an embellisher, you can see that it is like flat cut felt which, as you can imagine is ideal.

Hope this is of some help to those who were wanting to see colours and types of these particular yarns.

Yesterday John came into the shop with his wife and it was a joy to have a man come into the shop who didn't do an about turn and walk out of the shop.-- what is it about men (most men)that when they get a glimpse of wool they come over all a tremble and are sooooooo uncomfortable they work out what is the quickest way out of the shop.

Anyway John proceeded to tell me he wins allot of first prizes with his lace weight shawls and just loves knitting.

So today, in he walks and he brought some of the work that he had with him(he is on holiday)

Woolfishers Knitters and Stitchers

Just a 'wee' taster about what goes on at Woolfish Knitters and Stitchers,

Diane finished this after a few years on the frame and is a bit loathed to take it off the frame, this is what she said :-

'This cross stitch languished on the frame for 16 years - growing slowly - a stitch here, a stitch there. Then Woolfishers!! and it grew and grew, almost without me realizing while I stitched and ..................with fellow Woolfishers'

Lucy has recently managed to come(thanks to her husband), and is a fan of circular knitting, here she is putting her best foot forward. It is good having her along.
Irene, who is a little gem in the group, is knitting all sorts of things with a passion as well as patch working and crocheting
This is a little sample of what goes on, and that's not mentioning Grace who is an inspiration to us all with alllllllllllll her socks, and Romana (who is the oldest member in the group) just knits and knits and knits and keeps us all in check, and Linda who is such a fast knitter and will knit anything I would like her to, and Maria who is knitting the longest scarf?imaginable (is it a scarf or .. - we will just have to wait and see) .........

We Have had a busy couple of weeks,

Trudi looked after a stand we had at the Kelso Show,

and last weekend I looked after the stand at the Ayr Flower Show,

We Both had a good time, and met very interesting people who were interested in knitting.

Retro Yarn

Before I start going on about yarn, I must just mention a lady who came into the shop today,her name is Joan, she is an amazing elderly lady, anyway she asked if I had some cheaper wool because she crochets hats for an orphanage in Romania, she has made about 180 so far and her goal is to make 800 , one for each child in the orphanage/s she crochets for.

she likes oddments and because of trying to get change I just didn't think to give her some wool that I have tucked away,please if her grand daughter who was with her is reading this please tell her I have some more yarn for her hats.

Anyway we have just got this yarn in, it is Retro by Adriafil, I knitted one ball up and it is amazing, I would like to make a tea cozy and then felt it, I know I am mad because it is wonderful as it is but it is made up of 96%wool so I am just interested in how it will turn out

Wonderful isn't it, I am hopefully going to felt it tonight if I just get on and knit the other half of the tea cozy, Hopefully you will see the finished product tomorrow.

More Wool

We have so many new yarns in stock and now that my camera is working again I can let you see some of the photos.

Trudi has organized them so well.

Also lots of new sock yarn and some of the old favourites.

This Manos yarn is wonderful, a mixture of silk and Merino wool.

This (Noro Yarn) is what Maria has knitted and is at this moment felting it to then cut it and stitch it up to make a baby's cot blanket/cover. It is at the moment 18' long so we will just have to wait and see what happens, I will try and keep you posted if she lets me see it or even talks to me ever again as it was my suggestion, I sit here trembling.

Golden Wedding

The reception was in a marque at my Christels (my sisters) house, the marque was put up by my nephews Martin, Richard and Ross. It was pouring with rain on the day but everything was lovely. Having the day off I enjoyed doing the flowers and having the time to do it

It was around last September that Frances Gardener and another Frances came into the shop an each of them bought 2ply cashmere, and this is the result...............
This is 2ply 100%pure cashmere and it just feels like a cloud, wonderful..pure luxury.

Last weekend Woolfish had a stand at Gardening Scotland Trudi and Linda were just great at the show, as was Grace who came on Saturday.

What a lovely day, it is so warm, I think, this time last week it was trying to snow and this week we are getting rid of our winter woollies, but then I remember the Scottish saying when translated into understandable English 'Never get rid of your winter clothes until the end of May'-I have written it this way because I can't spell it the Scottish way.

Which brings me on to Jane and Wally, they came into the shop when Trudi was looking after it and bought this pair of socks, ideal for walking in cold wintry weather which is when they bought them, Trudi managed to get Jane to model them, they can also be Kilt socks

Last Sunday Trudi and I were in Kelso and we passed this castle, it is Hume Castle and very impressive. The borders is such a romantic place, which is quite often overlooked which many people zoooooom past on the way to "SCOTLAND"
As you maybe can tell, I am learning about the computer and blogging as I go along, yesterday I had a back-handed comment from David McIntosh from Springbank http://www.springbankcottage.co.uk/

I was having lunch there, which was delicious I might add. Anyway he said that he had looked at this website and said that Trudi had done a good job, I told him that I had done it, He - thinking I must be about 100 years old- said that he thought a young person had done it. I think he realized at that moment what he had just implied, there were other customers in and they were offering to get him a shovel, we all had such a laugh :0)

Sock Yarn

Yesterday http://thehappyquilter.blogspot.com/ came into Woolfish and showed me her 'sock',I do think it is very impressive. She is now working on the second one, in between working on her wonderful patchwork,

Also a lady-who is staying with a friend of hers from Holy Island- came in today wearing a jumper she had knitted from sock yarn she had bought from me last year, it looks great, she has bought some more so we are looking forward to next year when she bring the next jumper in---watch this space!

At Last I have found my camera, and I have been V busy, I have got lots of new yarn or should I say wool. I have to live up to the name of the shop Woolfish.

I was at a trade show recently and someone was trying to sell me all this 'acrylic' yarn,I told him no that I didn't want 100%acrylic, he kept on trying to persuade me, in the end I told him that the name of my shop was Woolfish not Acrylicfish or Yarnfish but on saying that I did buy a little acrylic, I must learn to say NO NO NO. There is soooooooo much fabulous yarns around and I think I have bought too much.

We also went a little mad with the throws from Selkirk.

When I say WE, I now have help, a wonderful 21year old girl called Trudi, actually I am a bit biased. Trudi is my daughter and I am delighted that she is going to be working with me.

I am posting a couple of pictures of mohair throws for S just to let her see the colours, I love the mohair and they are £95 each.

It is great being back in the shop after being in the cafe over the winter, I tell you that was hard work and yet I think I will do it next year and because Trudi will be with me full time I think we should have the two running together.

Now that I back in circulation, I am going to try and keep regular blogs, so watch this space

Abbey St Bathens Sheep

Last week I wnt to Abbey St Bathens SWRI and got everyone to sew a sheep, as if there wasn't enough

sheep already. The ladies all did very well.

My camera hasn't been working lately so Denise Hall who was visiting from down south emailed me this picture. Didn't they do well.

I am getting my shop redone, proper shelving ( the last lot I made myself - not so good) and moving back in on the 1st of March. Help - so much to do.

By the way I was at a trade show and have ordered the most wonderful yarn. When I get it I wll take photos of it to let you see. - i need to get my camera working ok.

Hopefully it won't be so long with my next blog, it will be nice to be in some sort of routine.x

workshops

Today we had another knitting workshop and all ( even though it was just a few) seemed to enjoy it.

The next workshop is on Thursday and we are planning to do some hand sewn patchwork, this should be good fun and saves on having to carry a sewing machine around.

I am arranging other workshops for February , more patchwork, crewelwork, knitting a heavy duty shopping bag using up all those dreadful plastic shopping bags, and what about crochet, is there anyone out there fancy doing any crochet?

I need to get new batteries for my camera and take some more of our lovely frosty days or winter stormy seas. I think St Abbs is at its best in a storm - as long as I am warm. Not so good for the divers though.

Talking of divers.... and walkers I might add.....I am going to do a B&B a bit more seriously, so if any of you are looking for a place to stay Louise's B&B is the place, really relaxed, just next to the national Trust and within walking distance to St Abbs Harbour, there are some divers who already stay with us and they are great fun.

well I don't seem to have had a minute to write anything, but at last I have managed to sit and write something.

First of all, with a lot of help from my family., I moved most of the stock in the shop up to the coffee shop which is closed in the winter. I hope that was the right decision, I think so, at least people can come and get a cuppa and browse.

I held the workshop at the weekend in the coffee shop, As far as I know I think everyone enjoyed it

My daughter Trudi is away for the month staying with her my parents in Germany,and I miss her, I went to her houseto get something and thought I would take a photo of her/used to be mine, cat called Muffin, She didn't really like getting her photo taken, but allowed one before she put her head in the air and waltzed off to get food. While I was there I needed something from her kitchen cupboard and I got such a lovely surprise, so I took a photo, everything was so neat and tidy, she must take after me in other ways.

Fabulous Friday

It has been absolutely lovely today, I went down to St Abbs harbour (without my camera) and just watched the waves as they came over the walls. I just love a rough sea-as long as I am not in it or on it.

I was away for a couple of days ( to Ireland) so didn't get too much knitting done but managed to get hint 5 finished on the stole that I am working on.

By the way, Woolfish has a little mention in the simply knitting magazine, in the calender section. Fame at last.

I haven't done anything about Ravelry even though I have been invited to join, I need to look and get inspired to do other projects.

I am not too keen my stole compared to others , mybe its the yarn I am using, or maybe I should dye the stole when it is finished.

Can some one put the clock back so that I can catch up!

Is it just a week ago that I put up my last message.

I have not finished hint 2 of the knit along that I am doing.

I just started it yesterday and (pause)if I work at it all the rest of today -and not have any customers in to buy yarn and stuff,and tonight -and not go out for a bar meal with my sisters -and let the B&B guests look after themselves.I might just get it finished and go on to hint 3 -watch this oooooooops A few people came in and still no work done, oooops the phone, can I hibernate... space.

I had to knit a cashmere scarf for somebody, and she is still to come in and pick it up, thought I would take a couple of photos, saw something similar on Revalry----Did I tell you that I got an invite!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Its all a bit bamboozeling. I think I need help...

Finished Hint 1 SotS

Well, despite, rows 71 to 79 on the chart,
(I had to take them back about 1000,000 times),I have eventually finished Hint 1 on the Stole KAL.
My yarn is cashmere and silk 2ply with a similar coloured bead.
I am enjoing doing it, thats when I don't get too cross eyed.

A number of years ago I sold , in my shop in Ireland, Philipa Turnbulls Crewel Work Kits.My little coz started to do the same one as me, and she emailed me a piture, it hasn't been made into a cushion yet but is absolutely fabulous. mine? I am ashamed to say -despite teaching Crewel Work - is no more than 1/4 done, maybe in another few years it will be finished.
She also sent me these photos of her latest project, she is one clever lass, She is also selling these and Fimo figures on Ebay.

I have done another swatch for SotS with yo done the correct way, All I need to do now is work out how to do the lace cast off, then I will be all set to start the stole.

These are all self patterning yarn in the double knitting. It is a pure washable wool.

I have lots of different variations in the 4ply sock yarn, this 4ply is generally 75%wool and 25% man made fibre

Swatching again

It has been a lovely day, and as I write this it is blue sky outside the shop.

My Sister Christel and niece Rachel came too see me and we had coffee/lunch outside which was lovely.

I am trying to get this swatch right, still not ok, I am not getting my yo right, any help gratefully received. My latest being the one on the left, the mistakes seem to be repeated at the same spots in both swatches if you turn them round.

What do you think of the swatches? which swatch would be best for the kal (secret of the stole knit a long)?
